Having the right tools do a job or project is the first step in recovery. If I don't have a screwdriver, how it is possible to screw in a screw? If I don't have a ladder how can I change the lightbulb in the kitchen? You get the idea. Recovery (Not recovered) from my illness needs the right tools to maintain a balance. If I don't take my meds then I will suffer greatly. If a hand is extended and I do not reach back, I'm alone. The tools I use are quite simple, meds, excerise, eating right, sleeping enough, writing a journal, taking a break from my illness and taking the helping hand that's offered. Another key tool is giving back unselfishly. I have to remember that I am not alone. My experiences are not unique unto me alone. Many travel the same paths. People helping people is a fundemental philosophy of caring for others, empathy if you will. I cannot go through life alone. I need help alot of times. Sometimes the help is right in front of me.....

You are the most dependable, joyous friend I have 'met' in a long while. Thanks for always being there for me. You have helped me out of some very dark corners.

Much love,

Laurel

Thank you Laurel. You are a good friend. Those corners may be dark you still shine through.

Thank you for being a friend.

Come and visit the forums. There are a variety of different forums specific to your diagnosis. The schizophrenia forum is where I post.

    HI DAVE,

THANK YOU FOR ACCEPTING ME AS YOUR FRIEND. FRIENDS THAT UNDERSTAND ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY THESE DAYS,  I HAVE TWO BROTHER IN LAWS WITH SZA MY HUSBAND IS HEAD OF THE FAMILY SO FOR 30 YEARS.... WE HAVE CARED FOR THEM WE HAVE ONE THAT IS VIOLENT AND ONE THAT IS PASSIVE DEPENDING ON THE DAY, WE HAD TO PLACE THE VIOLENT ONE IN A FACILITY THAT HAS  HELPED HIM VERY MUCH, OUR PASSIVE BROTHER HAS HIS OWN APPARTMENT ACROSS THE ALLEY FROM US, HE DOES WELL MOST OF THE TIME WITH HELP.

I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS BUT KEEP A STIFF UPPER LIP, DONT LET IT BRING YOU DOWN, YOU HAVE TO BE THE STRONG ONE FOR THEM.

Dear Dave,

I swear- you were born to make me happy! Just when I think a day is going to drag me downhill, I hear from you. Sometimes it is the tiniest of threads that keeps us holding on. I applaud your bravery and resolve to give the world a new look at "US". Wow- do we need you.

I was at a baby shower the other day where I felt like Shiva- harbinger of doom. I'm thinking- are they nuts? Their mortgage is $2500 with a balon payment coming- neither of them have steady work- they have no savings- and the mom is not too healthy to begin with.

Then I remembered- life will always have its say. It will come when it wants, it will leave when it wants. It's a fickle & creative genius- not likely to listen to us whine and bang our heads on the counter when people say the dumbest stuff about the ECONOMY. Like that's our biggest problem.

I think our biggest problem is that we've lost community. Even in some families- certainly mine.

I am lost today-

but I know it's only a dense fog and I will take care of myself.

Bless you my friend,

Laurel

Thank you Laurel. You make my day. I believe that the community is lacking in many ways. Just go to  any store and see they treat the customres with dignity and respect. when you do tell me so I can go there.

Laurel you are an awesome friend. I cherish your emails. Don't concern yourself about being lost. Have faith, patience and perseverance that you will come out the other side with lots of sunshine. You bring sunshine to me.

Thank you my special friend.

May hope and sunshine wash over you,

Dave
